American liberals have long had a soft spot for left-wing
dictatorships, and Venezuela is no different. The late Hugo Chavez and his
successor, Nicolas Maduro, have been lavished with praise as they have run the
country into the ground. But that might change now that the Maduro regime has
sentenced a principal opposition leader to more than 13 years in prison.
Leopoldo Lopez’s biggest crime seems to have been besting Maduro in the polls.
Mustn’t have that.
