
A member of the local Venezuelan community is hoping Calgarians
will educate themselves on what he sees as a compounding problem, a continent
away. About 50 people gathered at City Hall Saturday to join with those
rallying in Venezuela — protesting political unrest and what’s seen as a biased
judicial system. Josue Ramirez, rally organizer, told 660 NEWS, it is also a
call to action for Canada to put outside pressure on the country that is “near
crisis point.” “The government is managing [Venezuela] in such a way that no
freedom of speech, no freedom of opinion, no freedom of party is allowed,”
Ramirez said. “There is a lot of violation of human rights.”
