The True Economic War against Venezuela

Nicolás Maduro has unsuccessfully tried to conceal the colossal failure of the political and economic model behind a figurative economic war supposedly unleashed by the "American Empire," Venezuela’s oligarchy and other "traitors to the homeland." Fighting that economic war has served as an excuse for both persecuting and prosecuting political leaders of the opposition and criminalizing and harassing the private sector of the economy. It has also served the State as a cover for not fulfilling its constitutional duties to release official economic data, since as pointed out a few days ago by José Ávila, a lawmaker for the ruling party PSUV and member of the Parliament’s Finance Commission, the official figures for inflation are not released for these being altered by economic actors contributing to the weakening of the national economy.
