Sardine becomes meat and chicken substitute in Venezuela

To the customers surveyed, fresh sardine has become the substitute for different types of fish, beef and chicken because despite high inflation, the price is still "affordable". "Now we have to buy more sardines because beef is super expensive," commented Ms. Jennifer Hernandez while acquiring a kilogram in the municipal market of Puerto La Cruz, El Tiempo reported. The vendors in the market offer it between VEB 100 (whole) and VEB 200 (steaks). "The sardine never finishes so people come to buy it every day", the vendor Ana Huerto mentioned.
