Venezuela has two records –one in purchase of middle-price yachts amounting up to USD 12 million and flaunted in the marines of Zulia, Falcón, Carabobo and Anzoátegui; another in purchase of executive aircraft. Only in Opa-Locka airport (Florida) there is more than one hundred planes worth from USD 2 million, like a Citation III, to six times higher. Buyers range from sub-lieutenants (confirmed) to generals and executive officers connected with the government. As the US Department of Commerce banned the sale of aircraft to countries involved in human rights abuses, there are cases of sale through third parties in foreign countries or with selling firms in Panama or the Netherlands Antilles. A plane for USD 7 million, a Beechcraft King 350, was recently sold through Curacao. More…
