Venezuela Political Repression Resumes With a Vengeance
Two opposition lawmakers were assaulted
Monday and an official with a minority political party was arrested and charged
with rebellion, as political repression resumed its pace after a brief respite
after a weekend of international condemnation on Venezuela. Tuesday and
Wednesday, Venezuela's Supreme Court issued decisions that tried to overtake
the National Assembly. After a massive national and international outcry, the
embattled administration of Nicolas Maduro put pressure, publicly, on the Court
to recant its decisions, which the Court did, raising even more questions about
