Venezuelans gathered in a small room inside Our Lady of Guadalupe at St.
Bernard’s church in lower Manhattan. The group included a human rights worker
who fled the country after receiving threats for his transgender advocacy, a
young couple with children still in Venezuela, a university student, and a
doctor passing by on vacation; he planned to leave the country himself soon.
