Action against Venezuela by OAS Seen as More Likely after Trump’s Moves


Renewed pressure by the United States on Venezuela could portend more forceful action against that Andean nation’s government by the Organization of American States, diplomatic sources told EFE. US President Donald Trump’s administration this week took two significant steps in its policy toward Venezuela, putting Vice President Tareck El Aissami on the Office of Foreign Assets Control blacklist for allegedly aiding drug traffickers and calling for the release of Venezuelan opposition leader Leopoldo Lopez, who was sentenced last year to nearly 14 years in prison for inciting anti-government protests in 2014.
