Venezuela’s state media drowns out poll winners


Venezuela’s opposition may have won a landslide victory in parliamentary elections, but watching state television it would be hard to tell. National TV channels — which have long been a propaganda tool for the ruling Socialists, who control almost all media outlets — barely acknowledged the government’s historic defeat in Sunday’s elections. When they did, it was to launch a barrage of interviews with Socialist party members and sympathisers warning of the dangers of the “counter-revolution”. More…
