Venezuelan opposition 'skeptical' of vote observers

Leaders of the opposition Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) said they briefed election observers from the Union of South American Nations (UNASUR) on a series of alleged irregularities but got an unconvincing response. "They just gave us an astonished look and said they were prepared to take our accusations to the electoral authorities. We reminded them that the national electoral council has done nothing to resolve these problems," said MUD secretary general Jesus Torrealba. "We're not condemning (the UNASUR observers) outright, but we are deeply skeptical about the profile of this mission," he told AFP. More…
