The National Commission of
Telecommunications in Venezuela, Conatel, demanded Galaxy Entertainment, better
known as Directv, to stop airing telenovelas that foment narcotrafficking such
as, “La Reina del Sur.” The Telemundo TV series was just 3 days away from
making its Venezuelan debut when Conatel released a press communicate
prohibiting its transmission. According to William Castillo, CEO of Conatel,
television and film productions developed around these contents “glorify the
life of people involved in narcotraffic and promote values that go against the
Venezuelan family.” Included in the communicate, addressed to Directv’s CEO
Alexander Elorriaga, is a reminder of the many times the satellite television
company has been warned about the regulation of their content. More…
