Today more than ever the exclusion and
hardships suffered by millions of Venezuelans bring to mind that old song
"Christmas Songs" sung by Billo’s Caracas Boys (a legendary
Venezuelan music band) that says in its chorus line: "Some are seen
joyful, some others in tears. There are some who have everything, everything
they have wished for… there are others who are very poor and have nothing at
all…" The thing that changes with the situation of social inequality in
Venezuela back in those days is that now those "who have everything,
everything they have wished for" is just a small ruling elite thriving
thanks to the public money being misused with total impunity; while the number
of people who "have nothing," or those finding it hard to get access
to basic food, medicines and a myriad of products because of the economic
crisis, is increasing, including middle class professionals and anyone living
on a fixed salary, today grotesquely devalued by an unstoppable inflationary
