Recently the Standing Committee for International Relations
of Parliament met with the Prime Minister of Curaçao, Dr. Bernard Whiteman and
the multidisciplinary committee, which assist the government on the
developments in Venezuela. The situation in the South American country is
deteriorating. The Prime Minister and the multidisciplinary committee, with
experts in 24 different areas have notified the members of the parliamentary
committee that Curaçao is well prepared for any eventuality in Venezuela. During
the meeting, the experts discussed the economic aspects where they confirmed
that Curaçao is already experiencing the effects of a decrease in tourism from
Venezuela. The committee also indicated that they do not anticipate any changes
and that tourism from Venezuela will not be the same as it was in the first
