On Tuesday morning, six retail stores of
the Venezuelan unit of Dutch-based warehouse club Makro located in Greater
Caracas (La Urbina, La Yaguara, Altos Mirandinos, Guarenas, Charallave and
Vargas) displayed signs for its non-member customers announcing that, for now,
these stores would be focusing on the needs of some 1,324 grocery stores
throughout Caracas, a reason for which the issuance of "special
passes" had been suspended. The announcement urged these customers to
"buy the products of their interest in other establishments near
them." What is behind this announcement is a Government that is desperate
to win the race for the election to be held on December 6, because it may lose
its parliamentary hegemony as warned by all public opinion polls. More…
