Conatel, César Miguel Rondón and Freedom of Expression in Venezuela


We know that freedom of expression in Venezuela has been losing ground since Hugo Chávez took power, and that those replacing him today are not either fond of the independent critical media attempting to get to the bottom of the truth. These rulers just want them all to be like those that make up the so-called National System of Public Media, which is nothing else than the propaganda system of the ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV). They do not tolerate either independent media outlets or independent journalists. That reality keeps pushing the buttons of the board of directors of Conatel, the nation’s telecommunications ruling body, and explains why its statement issued against local journalist César Miguel Rondón last week.
