extinction! These should be the headlines in the national press today. Or might
as well be: popular rejection of Nicolás Maduro rises to 80%! But, Maduro has
shifted his focus from these vital issues affecting the entire population to
the Colombia-Venezuela border, by closing it after a very confusing armed
confrontation episode, which left three soldiers and a civilian wounded.
According to some reports, the shooting was an isolated incident; according to
others, the soldiers tried to intercept a truck loaded with basic goods being
smuggled into Colombia. Others speak of conflicts between narco-military
