The United States Department of State
Counselor, Thomas Shannon, said on Wednesday in Madrid that dialogue between
the US and Venezuela started upon Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro's
request. Shannon took part in the American Tribune organized by Casa de America
and news agency Efe. He highlighted that President Maduro decided to seek a
communication channel with the US. The diplomat described the situation of
talks as "hopeful," and noted, though, that talks were just
