A Boomerang Effect on Crime in Venezuela?


On Monday, Gustavo González López, Venezuela’s Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace, reported a joint operation with the participation of some 200 members of various police and military authorities in Cota 905 (a slum in the south west of Caracas) and the Gran Misión Vivienda Betania IV housing complex in Valles del Tuy, Miranda state. The Ministry report said that 14 criminals died at the hands of authorities. There were also 134 detainees (32 of them foreigners), while pointing out there are "direct links with Colombian paramilitary groups here in downtown Caracas."
