A series of articles published by TalCual
in the last two weeks have revealed the grave situation in the city of
Guasdualito, Apure state. Through those eye-opening stories, written by
Yosselyn Torres, it should be noted that the State is absent in that border
region between Venezuela and the city of Arauca in Colombia, although a similar
situation has been reported from other sectors. Guerrillas, paramilitary groups
and criminal gangs rule Apure’s second-largest city, not the government of
Nicolás Maduro. None of its officials in that secluded region of the country
have control over them. Neither the National Armed Forces, nor the National
