Venezuelan-born Czech citizen and family arrive in Prague to start a new life

Gloria Chmatilová, 38, born in Venezuela but with Czech roots and citizenship, will arrive along with her husband and two children at the Prague airport on Thursday afternoon as she wants to escape the ruling leftist regime there, daily Lidové noviny (LN) writes today. The family was helped by the Czech state and the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) that aids displaced people, LN writes. Chmatilová wants to start a new life in the country of her ancestors, LN writes. She was born in Valencia, Venezuela, but she inherited Czech citizenship from her grandparents and father, it adds. Last autumn, Chmatilová turned to the Czech consulate in São Paulo, Brazil, and then to the embassy in Havana, Cuba, as the Czech Republic does not have a diplomatic office in Venezuela, it adds.
