
Spain's former prime minister Felipe Gonzalez has postponed
his plans to travel to Venezuela to help defend jailed opposition leader
Leopoldo Lopez until a date is set for the politician's trial. Gonzalez had
planned to travel to Caracas on Monday, but put off the trip after a court
hearing for Lopez was canceled. His spokesman Joaquin Tagar said that Gonzalez
will not travel until the trial date for Lopez is announced. Gonzalez was
widely criticized by Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro after announcing he
would advise Lopez and his supporters. The former prime minister is a lawyer
and led Spain from 1982 to 1996.
