Venezuelan authorities have transferred a jailed opposition
leader, considered by government opponents to be among the country’s most
prominent political prisoners, to a notoriously violent penitentiary, his
lawyer said on Saturday. Daniel Ceballos was sentenced to a year in prison in
early 2014 for refusing to break up antigovernment protests and had been held
in a military stockade just outside of Caracas with Leopoldo Lopez, a former
presidential candidate and leader of their opposition Popular Will party. Venezuelan
authorities didn’t respond to a call on Saturday about the alleged move of Mr.
