Drugs Have the Edge in Venezuela


We don’t know whether Venezuela is a global cocaine hub, as stated by U.S.-based daily newspaper Wall Street Journal this week, but it is clear that a fair amount of drugs is transiting the national territory at present.  As we wrote this editorial, we received the news that a plane that had departed from Venezuela crashed in the Colombian Caribbean after being chased by Air Force aircraft of that country. It used to be the other way round before. This is not the first time that drugs fly out of this country.  Many still remember the case of an Air France commercial flight transporting some ton and a half of cocaine. This airplane was not taking off from some clandestine airstrip all lost in the Venezuelan llanos, but from the most important airport in the country. More…
