Russian and Venezuelan defense ministers, Sergei Shoigu and
Vladimir Padrino López, respectively, held a meeting on Wednesday in Caracas to
discuss defense matters and technical-military cooperation, state-run news
agency AVN reported. The Russian minister's visit to Venezuela is part of his
tour of several Latin American countries to strengthen Russia's relations with
sister nations. Shoigu will also visit Cuba and Nicaragua. On January 15,
during the visit of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to Russia, his
counterpart, Vladimir Putin, noted that Venezuela was one of Russia's most
