Caracas Opposition Mayor Detained on Anniversary of Protests


-- Caracas opposition Mayor Antonio Ledezma was detained by Venezuelan police one day after government opponents marked the anniversary of the arrest of Leopoldo Lopez, another opposition leader. Ledezma, 59, is being held at the intelligence service’s headquarters in Plaza Venezuela in Caracas, El Hatillo municipal Mayor David Smolansky wrote on Twitter. He was forcibly taken around 5:25 p.m. local time (4:55 p.m. EST), according to lawmaker Richard Blanco and Ledezma’s wife. More...
