
Venezuela and Paraguay are regarded as the most corrupt
countries in Latin America, whereas Uruguay and Chile are deemed as the most
transparent nations, according to a global rating of NGO Transparency
International (TI) released on Wednesday. The Corruption Perceptions Index
prepared by TI is taken as a baseline in the fight against economic offenses. The
rating has barely moved in the Latin American region, which is
"unfortunate, because it shows that governments have done little to
confront this problem accordingly," José Ugaz, a Peruvian lawyer appointed
last October as the chair of the board of TI, told Efe.
