What Happened: Authorities are
investigating what route might have been used by two leaders from the
Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) who fled to Venezuela, Caracol
Radio reported Aug. 22. Why It Matters: The move suggests that some FARC
leaders are concerned they might be arrested on charges of continuing
involvement in criminal activity despite immunity granted under their peace
deal with the Colombian government. If more FARC leaders abandon the deal, the
risk will rise that more of the group will return to violent criminal activity.
