Venezuela President Nicolas Maduro has
been making headlines for a long time because of the way he runs the South
American country, its state oil company PDVSA and the largest crude oil
reserves in the world — all during a severe economic crisis. However, the past
two months have been marked by surprising developments in the name of a claimed
corruption purge inside PDVSA. Maduro called former oil heads at the company,
including Nelson Martinez and Eulogio Del Pino, both having served as CEO and
oil minister under his own orders, “corrupt traitors” who were “stealing” from
