Terrified toddlers and babies carried to safety as tear gas leaks into nearby nursery and hospital

Terrified young children and babies had to be carried to safety after their nursery filled with tear gas as nearby demonstrators clashed with security forces. Video footage shows the youngsters in the arms of rescuers, who protected their own faces with masks as they went in to pull the children out. The toddlers were innocent bystanders as the uproar took place close by in Maracaibo, Venezuela, as protesters demand an election. The use of tear gas on the streets came amid five weeks of rising tensions in the country.
