Venezuelan doctors emigrate because of meager wages


There is a wide variety of reasons: low wages and shortage of input, drugs and equipment, in addition to social insecurity and persecution for political reasons. As a result, around 15,000 doctors have left Venezuela, heading mainly for the United States, Australia, Panama, Colombia and Spain, as per the estimations of the Venezuelan Medical Federation. José Manuel Olivares, Deputy and Chair of the Sub-Committee of Health of the Venezuelan National Assembly (AN), fears that due to the continued exodus there will be a deficit of physicians in public hospitals in the short term and no relief generation in the long run.
