A court in the Venezuelan capital on
Thursday accepted a request from prosecutors to keep a former defense minister
and anti-government critic in custody on new charges, a ruling that comes a day
before he was to be released from prison. The court accepted the petition from
the Attorney General’s Office to hold Raul Isaias Baduel in custody for alleged
crimes against national integrity, independence and liberty, according to a
notice uploaded to Twitter by his son, Adolfo Baduel. A separate judicial
notice, uploaded to Twitter last Friday by Baduel’s attorney, Omar Mora Tosta,
indicated that the former defense minister was to be released on March 3. More…
