At least one member country of the
Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA) has expressed
surprise that its government was not consulted prior to the publication in
Thursday’s Washington Post newspaper of an advertisement, presumably paid for
by Venezuela, criticising recent remarks by the Organisation of American States
(OAS) secretary general. “My government was very surprised to see on page A19
of the Washington Post of today (26 May 2016) a full page advertisement,
purportedly issued by ALBA, in which the name of Antigua and Barbuda was
included,” said Sir Ronald Sanders, Antigua and Barbuda’s ambassador to the
