Colombia Mounts Pressure on Venezuela over Border Crisis


Colombia mounted pressure on Venezuela Wednesday by announcing the visit of Organization of American States', or OAS, Secretary-General Luis Almagro to the border Saturday, and several requests for precautionary measures before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, or IACHR. Following a 'setback' over OAS' refusal to convene a meeting to discuss the border crisis between the two countries, Colombia intensified its actions abroad and promised to take the conflict to all international organizations. However, Venezuela made its stance clear through its ambassador to the OAS, Roy Chaderton, saying it wants to address the crisis bilaterally, keep it "in the family" and not let it reach international agencies.More…
