Venezuelan government branded "modern authoritarian"

"I'm not (Hugo) Chávez, but his son." In this way, Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro introduced himself in the presidential election of April 2013. Maduro's government "has further weakened and tamed independent media, reduced the opposition ability to control the government policy and continued threatening the civil society." The claim comes from Freedom House in its report "Freedom in the world 2014," released on Thursday in Washington (United States). The NGO kept Venezuela listed among the 10 partly free countries in the Western Hemisphere. Additionally, it put Venezuela together with Ecuador among the nations governed by "21st authoritarianism."
