Venezuelan Bakeries Fret Over Imminent Flour Shortage
Bakeries in Venezuela have reported a scarcity of bread in the new year as bakers struggle with a shortage of flour in the OPEC nation, the latest in a string of shortages that threaten to hurt the socialist government's popularity. Amid a reported shortage of imported wheat into the country and industrial inaction at the country's Molinos Nacionales mil company, David Oropeza, a manager at a Caracas bakery, told Reuters that his bakery has shifted production towards more economical loaves and rolls as supply shortages put pressure on prices.
