Food prices in Venezuela the highest in 18 years

The Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV) informed, one month after the scheduled date, that the price of food and non-alcoholic beverages jumped some 2.5% in December 2013. In light of these results, food inflation in 2013 soared by 74%, the highest since 1996, when the then president, Rafael Caldera, made serious adjustments leading to an 88.1% rise in food prices.
